The losses financially were in the billions, yet they were never able to claim their homes and property left behind. The breakup of their civilization is also a story that is yet to be properly told.
Today these Sephardic refugees and their families make up over 40% of the population of Israel and contribute to its rich cultural life. The Arab world is essentially Judenrein of the communities that had existed there for centuries before the Islamic conquest.
